Beyond Sowerby Bridge and Ripponden the A58 passes by Ryburn Reservoir and Baitings Reservoir then over the top of Blackstone Edge Moor, past Blackstone Edge itself, and down into Littleborough and Rochdale in Lancashire.
At the summit of this bleak moorland route is Blackstone Edge Reservoir - as windswept a location as any of the Pennines' many reservoirs.
