The Halifax Gibbet was a decapitating machine of "engine" which waas used to behead convicted felons in the West Yorkshire town of Halifax, predating the similar "guillotine" as used in the French revolution.
A replica of this gruesome device is situated at its original location near Gibbet Street, while the blade from the original machine can be seen in a local museum.
