More views of Oakwell Hall and Oakwell Hall Country Park
Oakwell Hall, Birstall (near Batley in the West Yorkshire district of Kirklees) was visited by Charlotte Brontė in the 1830s. The house served as inspiration for "Fieldhead" in her novel "Shirley".
[N.B. In nearby Gomersal is Red House - which provided the inspiration for "Briarmains" in the same novel.]
Today Oakwell Hall is a museum, situated in a pleasant country park.
