Darley Street Market opens for business

On Thursday 10th July 2025 the new Darley Street Market in Bradford opened its doors for business, with an official opening following over the weekend of Saturday 12th and 13th July 2025 with food shows and various entertainment such as bands and rap acts (pictured above) laid on.
Built on the site of the former Art Deco style Marks and Spencer building the Darley Street Market is a new development which will house traders from other markets in the city centre which have been closed and earmarked for demolition.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council's Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport says on the opening: "Darley Street Market has always been significantly more than a simple like for like replacement of the markets it's replacing. It helps modernise our retail offer, but it also reshapes the city centre with a new market square. This project is creating spaces for people to shop, meet and socialise, but also providing new cultural opportunities with events, film festivals and live music all a possibility."
Says Councillor Susan Hinchcliffe, Leader of Bradford Council: "Darley Street Market is a key part of our regeneration strategy and helps pave the way for work to start in earnest on housing and City Village later this year. The building itself is a purpose built, high spec space, with a focus on fresh food and a food court. It also includes an events space which will allow food, culture, and social experiences to bring people to together in a vibrant place for all to enjoy and we're confident it will draw people to it as a major destination for Bradford.
"Over the last few weeks, we've seen events like the Big Brass Blowout and Soapbox Derby bring crowds to the city centre. Bradford Live now has events planned as part of our year as UK City of Culture and has announced its programme of events. The new market is a stone's throw from Forster Square station too, which from next Monday will be served by an additional platform, Platform 0, enabling seven direct trains a day from London. Darley Street Market will capitalise on all of this, offering visitors, shoppers and city centre workers a place to shop, eat and relax as well as having an events programme of its own."
