Haworth 1940s Weekend raises over £ 12,000 for Help for Heroes

The Haworth Community Group donated a cheque for £12,008.26 to Help for Heroes in a presentation at the top of Haworth's cobbled Main Street this month (September 2012).
The money was raised by May's Haworth 1940s Weekend - which for the first time in the event's eighteen year history was a charitable cause raising money for Help for Heroes through donations from local businesses and residents, along with merchandise and program sales.

Rev. Chris Upton, Rev. Peter Mayo-Smith and Nikki Carroll from the organising committee, along with Mike Powell, Emergency Planning Officer from Bradford Council were present to donate the cheque to Kevin Mitchell, the County Co-ordinator from Help for Heroes.
"We are absolutely thrilled at the amount we raised this year" said Nikki Carroll. "Everyone really pulled together to make this a community event. We all had a great weekend and raised £12k for a worthwhile cause into the bargain".
Planning is already underway for next year's event which will take place on 18th & 19th May 2013 and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the "Dambuster" raids, which will be the theme of the weekend. Funds will be raised next year for The Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association (SSAFA).
