The city of Bradford's highly successful Curry Capital team was honoured at the Yorkshire Enterprise Network's 2015 Bradford Business Conference.

Bradford clinched the title of The Curry Capital of Britain for the fifth year running - an astounding achievement when up against other front runners such as Glasgow and Birmingham.

Yorkshire Enterprise Network operations director Lynne Holgate presented special YEN trophies to representatives of the team at the conference, which was held in Bradford College's new multi-million pound David Hockney building.

Yorkshire Enterprise Network director Sheraz Malik said: "The theme of this year's Bradford Business Conference is 'Bradford Now' - focusing on the city's renaissance, with all the growth that has been achieved and investment attracted over the last 12 months.

"We were proud to hear of yet another success by local businesses, announced just a week before the conference. We felt it would be fitting to honour this tremendous achievement at the event and share the news with all the key players from across Yorkshire's business community who are here today."

The four restaurants involved in the Curry Capital team are the Aakash of Cleckheaton, Akbar's of Leeds Road, Kipling’s in Greengates and Shimla Spice of Keighley.

Bradford Council Tourism Manager Patricia Tillotson said that the Curry Capital of Britain award focuses on the co-operation between councils, restaurants, businesses and community groups to encourage community cohesion. She told delegates how the council worked with restaurants and other key partners to produce innovative bids that have captured the imagination and admiration of the judges for five years in a row.

She said they had to step up their efforts this year, as their previous entries had been held up to other competitors as an example of good practice. This year's bid included a world record poppadom carrying relay, and a curry garden to provide a lasting legacy for the community to enjoy.
