With spring in the air and school holidays just around the corner, the Bronte Parsonage Museum in Haworth have recently announced a range of events for the forthcoming Easter 2015 period.
As well as a brand new exhibition, "The Brontës, War and Waterloo", the museum is presenting a programme of events and activities for all ages, including re-enactors playing roles of characters from the lives of the Brontes.
Visitors to the museum in the afternoons of 30 March 2015, Tuesday 7 April and Friday 10 April 2015 will encounter Charlotte’s long-standing friend "Ellen Nussey". Ellen has heard that Charlotte is getting married and this dismaying news brings her to the Parsonage to talk to her friend about it. And on Good Friday, 3rd April 2015 and Easter Monday, 6th April 2015, the Brontës’ much-loved servant "Tabby Aykroyd" (pictured above) will be sharing her reminiscences of the Brontë siblings as children and passing on stories she’s heard in the village. Whether fact, fiction or folklore, Tabby’s chats are sure to entertain visitors of all ages.
On Tuesday 31 March 2015, visitors will have the opportunity to join a guided walk around the village of Haworth while on Wednesday 1st April 2015 there will be a talk about the famous ‘little books’, which were lovingly crafted by the Bronte sisters during their childhood at the parsonage.
Whatever the weather, green-fingered visitors will have the chance to make a miniature garden with local artist Rachel Lee on Thursday 2nd April 2015. This craft-based activity (pictured above) will provide fun for all the family.
Visitors on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th April 2015 will have a chance to get their hands on history by handling items from the museum’s collection of domestic artefacts.
The museum’s Learning Officer Sue Newby said, "We’re looking forward to welcoming families to the museum this Easter and giving all our visitors – whatever their age – a real insight into the lives of the Brontë family and what it was like to live in Haworth at that time."
Visitors will also have the chance to see a fragment of Napoleon’s coffin owned by Charlotte Brontë and admire the recently-returned family dining table at which "Jane Eyre", "Wuthering Heights" and "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" were all written.
All events are free with admission to the museum. For timings and latest information, please visit the Easter Holiday Events section of the museum’s website.
