East Riddlesden Hall needs your help

All lovers of the British countryside have a reason to celebrate this autumn, as the nation's favourite outdoor companion, Bovril, is donating £100,000 to the National Trust to share amongst the most deserving projects. The project is part of the Great Outdoors Revival, helping to restore special outdoor areas across the country with a well deserved makeover.

East Riddlesden Hall, Keighley has been shortlisted as one of 79 Trust properties across the region in need of restoration, and the staff at the 17th Century Manor house are asking the public to support them by registering their vote. The top five properties with the most votes at the end of the year will receive a share of the £100,000 prize . After the estate of East Riddlesden Hall fell into decline in the 1800s, the tenanted farms disappeared, leaving today's bare shut-off fields. The dream is to create a series of mown walkways, reopening the land to the local population and restoring it to its former glory - hugely expanding East Riddlesden's appeal. New gates need to be installed and several walls need repair. There are also some old farm buildings that are in need of restoration which could then be used as sites for interpretive panels, detailing the fascinating history of the site.

The nearby river is in need of clearing, so that a long-awaited club for local anglers can be established. There is also a dry oxbow lake that should be reconnected to the river in order to create a sanctuary for wildlife, and which could then be accessed by local schools.
