Kipping House

Stone built house with large garden

Kipping House is a private residence situated on Lower Kipping Lane in Thornton village.

This was once home of the Firth family, who were close friends of the Brontes. Indeed Mr Firth and his daughter Miss Firth were Godparents to Elizabeth Bronte (who sadly died in childhood) while Miss Firth was also Godmother to Anne Bronte.

The two families became friends while Patrick Bronte was incumbent at the Bell Chapel and living at the Bronte Birthplace in Thornton. They kept in touch after the Brontes moved to Haworth, with visits to each other being made on regular occassions.
