Glen tramway celebrates 130th annniversary

On Sunday 18th May 2025 the Shipley Glen Tramway celebrated its 130th anniversary.

Originally opened in 1895 by Sam Wilson, this tramway funicular was constructed to take visitors from Saltaire to Prod Lane overlooking Shipley Glen, where a specially constructed toboggan slide and a Victorian funfair were located.

To commemorate the 130th anniversary locals turned up to ride the tramway funicular in period dress, and at the lower station there was a performance by the Baildon Strummers ukulele band, a display of Jowett cars brought along by the Northern Section of the Jowett Car Club as well as a traditional Punch and Judy Show which was put on for the kids. Catering was provided by by the Rotary Club of Shipley.
