Bronte Scenic Tour Bus Service Details Announced for 2010
The popular “Bronte Scenic Tour” bus service 812, will return to Haworth on Sunday 2nd May & Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May, one month earlier than in previous seasons, and will then run every Sunday & Bank Holiday until the end of August 2010.
The bus connects Haworth Station to the principal Haworth coach & car parks, the Bronte Parsonage Museum and Main Street, and then runs out to Stanbury Village and Ponden Reservoir at Scar Top. Departures from Haworth Station are timed to connect with Keighley & Worth Valley Railway (KWVR) trains arriving at Haworth from Keighley. In addition, the first through bus journey to Haworth and Stanbury starts from Keighley Bus Station. This extra journey plugs a gap in the existing Haworth bus service and creates regular half-hourly Sunday morning departures from Keighley to Haworth. Ordinary Metro fares are charged and all Metro passes and concessions are valid. This season, by popular demand from regular customers, six journeys on the 812 bus will run to Ponden Reservoir at Scar Top; whilst four of the return journeys are diverted across the top of Penistone Hill to Marsh Chapel, returning via Marsh Lane and Sun Street to Haworth Station. These extra journeys provide new journey opportunities for both local people and the many visiting walkers and ramblers to reach deep into the Bronte moorlands. An attractive Metro pocket timetable and route map is available from Keighley Town Hall and Bus Station, from KWVR Stations and from Haworth TIC and Community Contact Point. Bus service 812 is sponsored and funded by the Worth Valley Joint Transport Committee (formed from the three parish councils of Oxenhope, Haworth and Keighley) with financial assistance from Metro. The bus and driver are provided by Transdev Keighley & District on contract to the Worth Valley Joint Transport Committee (JTC).
A spokesman for Worth Valley JTC said, “The 812 Bus has been called ‘the invisible service’ in Haworth because some residents and shop keepers seem unaware of it. Yet it is a busy little service which performs an extremely valuable function for residents and visitors alike. Certainly Haworth Cross Roads & Stanbury Parish Council sees it as a valuable part of the local public transport network. Bearing in mind the many issues regarding car clamping in Haworth, it is worth considering the low cost bus option, which lessens the impact of the car upon this historic Pennine Village. You can easily park in central Keighley or at Ingrow (West) Station and travel to Haworth by K&D bus or KWVR train. Then use connecting Bus 812 from Haworth Station to access all the Haworth visitor attractions and also the Bronte Moors at Ponden Reservoir and Penistone Hill”
The above information has been supplied by the Worth Valley Joint Transport Committee.
